Girl’s Varsity Tennis 2025 Proves that Anything is Possible

This year’s tennis season was marked by significant ups and downs, challenges, and successes. The team transitioned to the City League Division, which presented various obstacles, including schools lacking full teams and courts, as well as some players new to the sport. However, this situation ultimately benefited our team, which had only a few returning players from last year and several newcomers, both to the team and to tennis itself. Remarkably, our new players were able to learn and compete in less than three months, an impressive feat considering the typical learning curve for tennis.

The overall season record was strong, with a League record of 8-2 (only losses to Mira Mesa) and a non-League record of 3-2-1, resulting in an impressive overall record of 11-4-1. We finished the regular season in 2nd place in the League, just behind Mira Mesa, who went on to win the CIF Division III Championships.

Our performance in the League Playoffs was commendable, featuring several seeded players. In doubles, Mya Gennerman and Samantha Fisher earned the #1 seed, while Yaretzi and Skye achieved #2. In singles, Kennedy Lin was seeded #5. Notably, Kennedy had to face teammate Ruby in a thrilling match, winning 8-7. Mya, Sam, Yaretzi, and Skye all reached the semifinals, and Mya and Samantha ultimately clinched 1st place in doubles after a competitive two-day final.

Advancing to the CIF Team Playoffs, we were seeded #7 overall and made it to the semifinals for the second consecutive year, defeating #2 seed University City in the quarterfinals. We narrowly lost to Christian High School in the semifinals, who had previously lost to Mira Mesa.

Additionally, at the CIF Individuals, Mya and Samantha progressed to the second round, while Kennedy Lin served as an alternate. As the season concludes, we face the bittersweet reality of losing several seniors. However, it’s hoped that the experiences gained this year will motivate our underclassmen to strive for greater achievement next season. Based on our performance, there’s a possibility of moving up to the Eastern League, which would present new opportunities. Overall, this season showcased remarkable growth and potential for our team.
