Lady Chiefs Field Hockey wins home opener on the road against Bonita Vista!
The Lady Chieftains began the season strong against Bonita Vista’s Lady Barons. The scoring started early with an assist by Grace Brown (Sr) to Maelea Silao (Sr) for the first goal of the game. A great second quarter shot by midfielder Iris Hallin (Sr) sent the Chiefs into halftime up 2-0.
The Chiefs kept up the pressure in the second half with Grace Brown (Sr) knocking one in after a shootout in front of the Barons’ goal. The Lady Chiefs finished strong with an exciting first varsity goal for Isabel Johnson (Fr) and Olivia Sanchez (Jr) capitalizing off a corner to end the game 5-0.

Lady Chiefs Field Hockey wins the home opener against Helix High!
The Lady Chieftains took the win at home today against Helix’s Highlanders. The Chiefs scored early with a great assist by Maelea Silao (Sr) to Grace Brown (Sr) for the first goal of the day. The Chiefs increased the lead when Iris Hallin (Sr) sunk one off a corner penalty to put the Chiefs up 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Highlanders defense held strong for the second quarter, holding the Chiefs 2-0 into the half. Another impressive shot by Grace Brown (Sr) in a corner penalty brought the Chiefs up 3-0. Despite increased pressure by the Highlanders, the Lady Chiefs defense held strong and the game ended with a 3-0 win for the Chiefs.

Lady Chieftains Field Hockey take another ‘W’ against Otay Ranch’s Mustangs
The Chiefs came out strong on the road today against Otay Ranch’s Mustangs. An early assist by Maelea Silao (Sr) to Grace Brown (Sr) put the Chiefs on the board. A second goal quickly followed when Reese Brancheau (Sr) capitalized off a corner penalty. Iris Hallin (Sr) then took the Chiefs into halftime with a 3-0 lead with a powerful PK shot.
The Chiefs kept up the pressure in the second half with another Maelea Silao (Sr) to Grace Brown (Sr) goal. Grace Brown (Sr) then earned herself a hat trick off a corner penalty to give the Chiefs a 5-0 lead. The Mustangs did not give up, but their defense was not enough to stop Isabel Johnson (Fr) from another goal. A final assist by Lilliana Princ (Sr) to Harper McNally (So) ended the game with a 7-0 final score.

Lady Chiefs Field Hockey wins in overtime against Mt. Carmel’s Sundevils
The Lady Chiefs battled tonight against Mt. Carmel’s Sundevils. The game was scoreless into the half, but the Chiefs pulled ahead with an assist by Grace Brown (Sr) to Iris Hallin (Sr) in the third quarter. The Sundevils did not quit, though, and a last minute goal in the fourth quarter tied to game 1-1 in regular time.
The score remained 1-1 after 7 vs. 7 overtime, sending the Chiefs into a shootout. All pressure was on first year keeper Amara Taylor (Jr) who did not disappoint. Her masterful defense combined with goals by Iris Hallin (Sr), Reece Brancheau (Sr), and Maelea Silao (Sr) meant another win for the Lady Chiefs. This brings the Chiefs to a 4-0 record for the season.

Lady Chieftains Field Hockey take another ‘W’ against La Jolla Country Day’s Torrey Pines
The Lady Chieftains fought hard today to keep their winning streak against LJCD’s Torreys. The game was scoreless into the half, but the Chiefs were able to get on the board with an amazing corner penalty shot by Maelea Silao (Sr) in the third quarter. Another corner penalty opportunity by Grace Brown (Sr) in the fourth quarter brought the Chiefs score up to 2. LJCD’s offense did not quit, but the Chiefs defensive wall held for their fourth shut-out of the season.

The undefeated Lady Chieftains Field Hockey wins again against Sage Creek
The Lady Chieftains were on the road today against the Sage Creek Bobcats. It was a hot day on the turf and the Bobcats came to battle. Despite offensive attacks by both teams, the game remained scoreless in the first quarter. A corner penalty shot by Maelea Silao (Sr) finally put the Chiefs up 1-0 before the half.
The Chieftains extended their lead in the third quarter when Lilliana Prince (Sr) knocked in another great shot on a corner penalty. The Chiefs cemented the win in the fourth when Samantha LaFevre (So) won a battle in front of the net to bring the final score to 3-0. Tonight’s win puts the Lady Chiefs record at 6-0 for the season.
