Chieftains Take on Ravens
The Lady Chieftains took the field Thursday evening to face off against the Ravens. Despite a slow first half, the Chieftains came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and never looked back. With big plays, disciplined defense, and steady execution, Clairemont rolled to a 45–13 victory over Canyon Crest.
Offensive Highlights
- Sophomore Abby Mora led the way, throwing for 219 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
- Senior Alexis Benjamin added an extra spark under center, passing for 89 yards and 1 touchdown.
- Their 5 touchdowns were spread across the roster, with scores from Seniors Camryn Walton and Benjamin, Freshman Kacey Otterman, and Junior Janelle “Nelly” Darensburg.
- Receiving standout, Otterman, had a breakout night. She hauled in 7 receptions for 136 yards and racked up 6 conversions to keep the chains moving towards the end zone.
Defensive Highlights
- The defense put on a strong showing with 30 tackles recorded as a unit. Sophomore Lily Rubio accounted for 5 of those tackles and 1 pass breakup as she locked down the corner.
- The secondary shined further with 2 interceptions, both by Benjamin, including one returned for 36 yards and a score.
- The Chieftains also locked down the passing game with 3 pass breakups, keeping the Ravens’ offense off balance all evening.
