BWP GETS RIGHT IN VENTURA

DAY 1 RECAP

CLAIREMONT 11 – OXNARD 8

The Chieftains opened up the Ventura Tournament with one of the host schools – a senior heavy Oxnard Yellowjackets.  Oxy was a stubborn opponent that refused to go away for three quarters as the Clairemont boys took some time to shake off the cobwebs of a 4 hour drive north.  Only up 7-6 heading into the 4th quarter, the boys strung together a strong 4-1 quarter to put the game away for good behind impressive offensive performances from Preston Coleman, Graham West, and Kyse Moosa

BUENA PARK 12 – CLAIREMONT 8

The Timberwolves jumped the Chieftains early in the second round of the tournament, scoring on their first 3 possessions to take a 3-0 lead mere minutes into the game.  Clairemont battled back to within 1 early in the second quarter, but were never able to serious challenge again after that as Buena Park separated before halftime and held on for the remainder of the match.  The physicality and athleticism of yet another senior heavy team just proved a bit too much for a young Chief squad.  But valuable lessons were learned heading into the second day

DAY 2 RECAP

CLAIREMONT 10 – LAKEWOOD 5

The first game of the next day started off as well as the boys could have hoped as they stormed out to a 4-0 lead on 100% shooting!  Coleman, West, and Moosa were the usual suspects on offense again, however a strong second half from Benson West helped maintain the large lead for Clairemont.  A pair of epic penalty shot blocks in the 4th quarter by Derek Pryor preserved the lead late as a 16 man rotation closed out the Knights.

THOUSAND OAKS 8 – CLAIREMONT 7

The final match of the tournament saw the Chieftains against one of their most challenging foes of the season in the Lancers.  The senior heavy squad in Thousand Oaks came to play, but the Chieftains were up to the task!  A defensive 2-2 battle at half time turned into a scoring affair in the third quarter as Clairemont lit up the board with 4 goals to the Lancers 3 to take a 6-5 lead into the fourth quarter.  It was an outstanding effort from the boys but they came up just short in the end.  Charlie Gipson capped off a great weekend with a goal late, but the Chieftains were unable to find the tying goal late.  Despite the tough loss, the boys played one of the best games of the season.

UP NEXT
