Clairemont Flag beats Point Loma

Clairemont pulled out a nail-biting 18–16 victory over Point Loma in a game that came down to the wire.

The Lady Chieftains put together another high-yardage performance through the air, finishing with 256 passing yards between quarterbacks Alexis Benjamin (’26) and Abby Mora (’28). Both QBs showcased dual-threat ability, by each running in a touchdown to give Clairemont the lead going into halftime. The final score came in the 3rd quarter, when Benjamin connected with Camryn Walton (’26) on a short pass that turned into a 31-yard sprint to the end zone, securing Clairemont’s 18 points.

On the other side of the ball, Clairemont’s defense made a huge impact by limiting Point Loma’s conversions and causing 4 punts. Natalie Hovey (’26) accounted for two of the three pass deflections, and the team hauled in two interceptions—one each from Kacey Otterman (’29) and Benjamin. Megan Castel (’28) made crucial defensive plays and strong rushes on coverage units, securing 1 QB sack that kept Point Loma from gaining momentum in the second half. Megan, a first year flag footballer, also runs Track for Clairemont. Her rushing speed and ability to get down the field to tackle punt returners have made her an asset to the team and she just keeps getting better. Megan is our player of the game.

The Lady Chieftains are now 8-2 overall and 4-1 in league and look to continue their success when they face O’Farrell Charter on Thursday, 9/18 at home – 6:30pm.
