Clairemont Rallies Late to Defeat Vincent Memorial, 32-25

The Clairemont Chieftains showed heart and resilience Friday night, storming back in the fourth quarter to defeat Vincent Memorial, 32-25, and pick up their first win of the season.

Quarterback Kellen Morton guided the offense with confidence, completing 11 of 16 passes for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns while also adding 30 yards on the ground on 8 carries. Morton’s accuracy and composure in key moments kept the Chieftains in striking distance.

Running back Tyler Allen was a workhorse, carrying the ball 21 times for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns. His highlight of the night came on a 60-yard scoring burst that energized the entire sideline and flipped momentum back to Clairemont.

Sophomore wideout Bradley Eby delivered a breakout performance, catching 5 passes for 107 yards and both of Morton’s touchdown throws. Eby’s ability to stretch the field gave the offense the explosive element it needed.

Still, the Chieftains found themselves trailing 25-24 with under four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. That’s when the team put together its most impressive drive of the season, an 80-yard march down the field, going a perfect 3-for-3 on third downs, and finishing with the go-ahead score that sealed the win.

With the victory, Clairemont improves to 1-3 on the season. The Chieftains will look to build on this hard-fought performance as they head back on the road next week to take on Buena Park.
